JT Multisport Winter 2022 Newsletter

Winter in CBR..

The endurance capital of the world.

It may have been a cold and wet winter for many but as a club we have achieved a wide range of accomplishments over the Winter 2022 season. Highlights include the TACT annual awards, JTM gala night, 100 x 100 swimming charity event, Montreal World Triathlon Championships, Australian Standard Distance Duathlon Championships, Townsville Winter camp and Aquathon & Sprint Duathlon National Championships.

This calendar year 15 JTM athletes have collected national medals, including 8 national champions. We’re looking forward to an even bigger year in 2023 kicking off in St Kilda on January 15th!

In preparation for her 23km swim across the English channel, Ashleigh Webb, along with many other JTMers swam 100 x 100 to raise funds for The Kallan Lodge Library. Fuelled by hydralyte, bananas, muesli bars and numerous gels, some 300 or so tumble turns later the challenge was completed. With the event coming up on October, it’s not too late to support Ashleigh via her My Cause page here.

Georgie Hicks travelled to Montreal to compete in the World Championships, racing the Sprint distance and was also selected to race the mixed team relay. Despite her bike not arriving in time, Georgie sourced another bike, raced it and even beat her own bike back to Australia.

In late August, athletes travelled to sunny Townsville to lap up some warmer weather training and complete in the Aquathlon & Sprint Duathlon national championships. JTM came away an overall win, multiple age group podium finishes and a host of personal bests.

As we look ahead to the 22/23 season we can’t wait to tackle the Stromlo duathlon next weekend and work towards our summer camp in Falls Creek and Melbourne into the sprint distance national championships. More info to come!

Athlete Spotlight

James Tuggey

James joined the JTM family in June 2021 and brought with him a ‘proper’ accent from the UK. With his family in tow, a new place to call home and a passion for all things triathlon James soon became a JTM legend. Over the 2021 season James’s consistency and dedication earned him a stellar result at the IRONMAN Geelong 70.3 in Feb this year, finishing in under 6 hrs!

This season James will be lining up for a number of long course races as he races in team and solo events. We can’t wait to follow his improvement in what looks to be a massive year for the Tuggey family!
