JAMES THORP
Head Coach JT Multisport
Hi, i'm James. I am a Professional Triathlete and Coach based in Canberra Australia. I have grown up immersed in sports and competed as a division one college athlete in the US while earning a Masters' Degree in Exercise Physiology with a focus on cycling performance. I have coached athletes to multiple age group world championship wins and was awarded the 2023 Aus Triathlon Age Group Coach of the Year.
The year may be wrapping up but with November our biggest month of racing this year, there’s no sign of slowing down.
In what was one of the highlights of our year Myles Wood (AUS), Polly Templeton (AUS) and Yassin Ezzat (EGY) made the journey to Abi Dhabi to represent their home countries. Continuing our run of AG World Championship medals at WT grand final events, Myles stormed home to take the silver medal in the 20-24 age group.
JTMers have had a big month and we have kicked off the 22/23 season with a bang! Local racing at the Jackie Fairweather memorial triathlon (turned duathlon) brought out a strong support crowd and a range of excellent results from those who raced. We maxed out Interclub series points and with high hopes of defending the Interclub title we are gearing up for Canberra’s next local race: Bring on Summer.
Welcome to the 2022-23 season and what an exciting start it has been. Our hard work over winter is paying off; be it a rest or braving the cold it’s great to see the club ramping up for what promises to be big season.
It may have been a cold and wet winter for many but as a club we have achieved a wide range of accomplishments over the Winter 2022 season.
As one season comes to a close, another one begins! May is always a month of celebration for the team at JTM…
Historically April is one of our bigger months. With the huge February and March and a couple of long weekends, April gave us a chance to breathe and prepare for our end of season races.
If February was big, March was huge for the JTM family! Wrapping up February with Husky had our group inspired with lots of milestones and goals being ticked the following week as we launched into a month of racing in March.
We’re back! After 2 years of waiting February was the month we were after! With racing and training filling our calendars we breathed a sigh of relief as we returned to some kind of normality!
What an up and down start for 2022! The year started with a bang and one of our best camps ever in Falls Creek, Victoria. We spent the week climbing mountains, running trails and swimming in the Rocky Valley Dam. This year teams were competing for the coveted rainbow bandana. Congratulations to team red for taking the title this year and to Bell Roche and Jarrod for being awarded camp MVPs! We’re already looking forward to next year.
Our first hurdle of 2022 shortly followed camp….
This June was a month of celebration. We celebrated having our squad back together after a squad break as well as the 22/23 seasons at both the JTM Gala and TACT awards night. These nights are a great opportunity for our athletes to celebrate with their squadmates and the broader triathlon community.
