JT Multisport December 2021 Newsletter

December 2021

Bye bye 2021! What a year it has been. From lockdowns and group zwift sessions to racing some of the best athletes in the country as borders opened up. The year has challenged our athletes and coaching staff but after some rest we’ve come out the other side stronger and more determined than ever for a big 2022 season!

December saw the JTM fam get together to celebrate 2021 at our Christmas party where our athletes raced each other to the finish line for the last pick in our stealing santa competition during our handicap aquathon. Line honours went to Ally Martin whose dedication to dress in Christmas attire meant her and teammate Yoann Colin took the title! In what was one of our proudest days the majority of our squad then went down to Henry Rolland Park to support our junior women as they race the Australian Grand Prix Triathlon against some of the best athletes in the country. We were so proud of the efforts of Jordyne and Ash and loved cheering them on in such an exciting format!

Our Christmas celebrations kicked on to the Canberra Cycling Club Christmas Crits where we had an incredible showing in the women’s race with Josie Pepper taking second in a field full of former olympians, world and Australian champions. The final session of the year was our Christmas challenge where Andy ‘Wally’ Walton took the honours from Abi ‘The Battery’ Adera, Blake ‘B-lak-é’ Wooster and Yoann ‘Yoz who?’ Colin.

After a taxing year on everyone we were glad to see our members and coaches take some time off to celebrate the holidays with their family and friends. We’d like to give a special shout out to those who weren’t allowed this time during the Christmas period due to lockdowns and the need to isolate. We encourage everyone to ensure they are kind to themselves and each other and get the rest they need before jumping into what is sure to be a massive 2022!

Athlete Spotlight

Lauren Bullman

At JTM we strive to ensure all our members feel like they are a part of our JTMfamily. Lozza B epitomises what it means to be a JTM family member. LB is well known for volunteering to help with any of our social events, camps or session design and is the first there to support her squad mates. With an early January birthday we love celebrating LB’s birthday during our training camps. We can’t wait to see Lozza at the finish line of her first 70.3 this May in Port!

Training Tools

With the load placed on your body during training for three sports the injury risk in triathlon is high. Despite our best efforts to minimise injury risk through good biomechanics, equipment and load management from time to time niggles do occur. Often followed by a period of rehab we are challenging our athletes to get on the front foot and replace rehab with prehab! As coaches we love seeing our athletes seeing professionals in their team as a preventative measure. The new year is a great time to head into the physio for a screening and ensure you are minimising your chances of injury!
