JT Multisport February 2022 Newsletter

February 2022

We’re back! After 2 years of waiting February was the month we were after! With racing and training filling our calendars we breathed a sigh of relief as we returned to some kind of normality!

February kicked off with a bang in Bateman’s bay where Blake Wooster and Doug Wynn gave the crowd what they wanted fighting all the way to the line to grab line honours in what was one of the most exciting sprint finishes we have seen! Rob Mules followed up by taking the overall Aquabike win in his first multisport event and our February medal haul was well underway.

The following weekend saw the JTM family come together to take part in the ACT Aquathon Champs and the 4th race of Forager series. The swim run, swim, run format saw the course flooded with black and gold as Liv Sutton, Leeanne Tennant, Blake Wooster and Doug Wynn all claimed the ACT aquathon title and helped JTM extend the lead in the Forager series to 6.5 points heading into the final round. The club not only excelled on the race course but were also awarded the Sportscare sponsored volunteer prize for having most volunteers on course! Thanks to all our volunteers who ensure our events continue to run smoothly and safely!

The following weekend saw our squad head to 70.3 Geelong, a race that a number of our athletes had been targeting for months. We were so excited to be able to share the experiences of James Tuggey and Paul Leskovec in their first 70.3 and Ally Martin who at the same race in 2020 discovered an aggressive form of breast cancer. Her tenacity in not only completing the race 48 months later but finishing with a personal best was inspiration for us all.

The racing that weekend didn’t stop in Geelong with Oscar Starmer and Steph Anderson taking part in the Trex Snowy Mountains Cross Tri National Championships, both had great races despite a few spills with Oscar collecting our first national championship medal of the year with silver in the 20-24 age group. Polly Templeton and Ashleigh Webb raced at the all women’s tri and sri chinmoy lake swims respectively keeping a huge age group medal streak rolling!!

The racing in February wasn’t done there with 28 entries into Big Husky. The weekend lived up to the hype with the squad collecting 15 medals from 28 starts including Tracy Clinch taking the bronze medal in the Elite Long Distance Australian Championships and Doug Wynn claiming the gold medal in the 30-34 age group of the Aquabike National Championships. Congrats AquaDoug and coach Grace on your first of what is set to be many National and International titles!

The month of racing was rounded off with Ashleigh Webb collecting another piece of hardware winning the 30-39 Age Group of the WOW 10km in Melbourne and Jordyne Rauter and James O’Brien racing the Australian Junior Championships and Age Group Sprint race respectively in Devonport.

We are looking forward to continuing to build on what has been an incredible February as races roll on in March. Of particular note are the standard distance National Championships in Mooloolaba. Good luck to all our athletes making the journey. We can’t wait to see what you can do!

Athlete Spotlight

Kim Fraser-Rybinski

We’re so proud to have Kim as an integral part of the JTM family! After ticking off the goal of getting to the finish line of a 70.3 two years ago at Western Sydney, Kim set her sights on the race that has alluded her, Port Mac 70.3! With a lead in at Melbourne 70.3 in a few weeks we can’t wait to see what she can accomplish in Port before setting her sights on the big one in 2023!!
