JT Multisport March 2022 Newsletter

March 2022

If February was big, March was huge for the JTM family! Wrapping up February with Husky had our group inspired with lots of milestones and goals being ticked the following week as we launched into a month of racing in March.

Our March racing kicked off at AAA where Polly (standard) and Steph (extreme) conquered one of Australia’s toughest races heading to summit of Australia, both collecting silver medals in their age groups. The following day had two of our favourite races running parallel with Broulee Bay 2 Breakers and Moo Tri. JTM once again collected the top step of the podium in Broulee thanks to Alec and Jordyne making it 4 years in a row for JTM! Our Mooloolaba team faced a tough day at the office after an up and down lead up but came away with a silver medal and national runner up in the 20-24 age group courtesy of Myles Wood - not bad considering the amount of placement hours worked this year!!

The following week saw Jarrod Osborne return to action following shoulder surgery last year to take the tape at Tri Hawks Nest after a very solid day and Mat, Kim and Michael fly the flag for JTM at Ironman 70.3 Melbourne. The wins kept coming in March with Talia and Imogen taking first and second overall at the CME Try a Tri in what would be Imogen and Phoebe’s first triathlon! Congrats to everyone who took part and to CME for providing such a fun event for athletes to do their first triathlon!

Oscar kept things rolling picking up the age group win at TreX Port Stephens to kick off his birthday celebrations which we’re pretty sure are still happening!

For most of the squad the bulk of the work is now done as we prepare to wrap up our season at Runaway Bay, Tri the Gong and Ironman Australia before taking our mid year break. We can’t wait to see what we accomplish in these big goal races for the team!

Athlete Spotlight

Blake Wooster

You likely haven’t done a race this year without running into Blake B-Lak-E Wooster. The man has done it all - and picked up a bag full of medals along the way. Although he may not look it, Blake turns out to be one of the toughest buggers we know as observed doing 1000 muscle ups in the gym at camp earlier this year. It’s been a pleasure to watch the huge growth after such a short time in the sport which has included a third place overall at during the ACT Aquathon series, an 8th place at National Championships before capping off his season with bronze medal at the Gold Coast Triathlon. We can’t wait to see what the future holds in year 2!

Training Tools

Do you ever consider how many strokes, run strides, and pedal strokes you take a day, week or month? As an endurance sport, triathlon puts us at risk of whole host of overuse injuries. Over the last couple of weeks we have noticed an increase in injury due to changes in equipment. With so many repetitions even the slightest change in equipment and biomechanics can massively increase injury risk. Consider this when selecting or making changes to equipment and ensure you have enlisted the help of a professional to get the gear which suits your needs and importantly when making changes gradually introduce that new pair of shoes, bigger paddles you’ve bought or kilometres on the TT bike.
