JT Multisport November 2022 Newsletter

The year may be wrapping up but with November our biggest month of racing this year, there’s no sign of slowing down.

In what was one of the highlights of our year Myles Wood (AUS), Polly Templeton (AUS) and Yassin Ezzat (EGY) made the journey to Abi Dhabi to represent their home countries. Continuing our run of AG World Championship medals at WT grand final events, Myles stormed home to take the silver medal in the 20-24 age group. Polly had a great race in the aquabike finishing 10th in the world and Yassin gained valuable experience at his first world championships being the youngest competitor in the 15-19 age group on his way to 17th.

The excitement of racing didn’t stop there with huge results in Melbourne 70.3 including Jarrod Osborne finishing 7th in his first pro race at the distance, Kristie Caplikas winning the 18-24AG on her way to a top 10 overall AG finish and Rebecca Taylor and Doug Wynn finishing their first 70.3s. Locally we saw big turnouts at our Canberra races including the Bring on Summer Triathlon, Sri Chinmoy Triple Tri and National Capital Swim.

We’re looking forward to continuing our momentum in December before launching into 2023 with our January camps.

Athlete Spotlight

Neil Papenfus

Residing in Port Moresby, PNG, Neil is not only well known by locals for his frequent sightings whilst training but he is also a leader within the PNG community. In particular, Neil is raising funds and creating awareness for Cheshire Disability Services and to continue to help this organisation he’ll be swimming the English channel next October.

Recently, we welcomed Neil to the Nation’s Capital as he completed his first official 10km swim at the Sri Chinmoy National Capital Swim. With coach Grace assisting in the Kayak, Neil crossed the finish line and braved the colder water temperatures here in Canberra.

We look forward to following Neil’s journey as he continues to conquer his personal goals and that of his local PNG communities.

Prepare to fail and you will!

As the year comes to a close and group sessions take a small hiatus, the importance of preparing to have good sessions is highlighted. One of the biggest areas of focus for our group this month has been on increasing our chances of having a good session by controlling the things you can control. If you’re about to dive into the water preparing to have a bad swim, it’s unlikely you’ll have a great swim but with a small shift in mindset you just might.
